대한민국의 영화 감독. 최종병기 활, 명량, 극락도 살인사건을 감독을 맡았으며 모두 흥행에 성공하였다. 그리고 명량이 천만 돌파, 역대 흥행 1위의 성적을 거두어 천만 감독 반열에 올랐다.

또한 영화 제작사 빅스톤 픽쳐스의 대표이사이기도 하다.
