1993년 동국대학교 경영학과(1989학번)를 졸업하고 1995년 KBS 아나운서로 공채 21기에 입사했다.
1년간 KBS부산방송총국 지역 순환 근무하며 1년간 근무했으며 1996년 이후에 본사로 복귀했다.
본사 복귀 후 <역사스페셜>, <KBS 뉴스 네트워크>, <KBS 뉴스광장 - 토요일>, <지구촌 뉴스>, <굿모닝 대한민국>, <2TV 아침 - 임시진행> ,<4시 뉴스집중>[1] 등을 진행했다.
2017년 공영방송 총파업으로 언론노동자로 동참한 아나운서로 2017년 10월 8일(방송일 기준) <도전 골든벨>(제3회 도전! 한글 골든벨)에 진행했던 남성 아나운서다.
현재는 3라디오 오늘의 신문과 KBS 월드 라디오 우리말 뉴스를 진행하고 있다.
