장영재 교수는 MIT공대에서 박사를 받았다. 현재 카이스트 산업 및 시스템 공학과 교수로 재직중이며 AI대학원 겸임 교수로도 참여하고 있다. 카이스트 공식 연구 센터인 <카이스트 첨단제조지능 혁신센터>와 <한국타이어-카이스트 디지털 미래기술 혁신 센터>의 센터장을 맡고 있다.
"스마트 팩토리", "AI기반 물류 자동화", "제조 디지털 트윈"이 주요 연구분야다. 2020년에는 AI기반 스마트팩토리 스타트업인 카이스트 연구소 기업 '다임 리서치'를 설립하였다. 카이스트 부임 전 미국 반도체 메모리 제조사인 마이크론 테크놀로지 (Micron Technology)에서 4년간 현장에서 공장 자동화 및 운영 관련 업무를 수행하였다. 실제 산업계 임팩트를 지향하는 연구를 추구하며 국내외 유수 기업들과 공동연구를 통해 실제 산업에 활용될 수 있는 연구를 진행해 왔다. 현재 국제저널 IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering 과 Computers and Industrial Engineering의 부편집장 (Associate Editor)를 맡고 있다. 대표 저서로는 교보문고 베스트셀러인 <경영학콘서트>가 있다.
Professor Jang Young-jae received his Ph.D. from MIT. He is currently a professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at KAIST and also serves as an adjunct professor at the KAIST Graduate School of AI. He is the director of two official research centers at KAIST: the KAIST Advanced Manufacturing Intelligence Innovation Center and the Korea Tire-KAIST Digital Future Technology Innovation Center.
His main research areas include "smart factories," "AI-based logistics automation," and "manufacturing digital twins." In 2020, he founded "DIME Research," a KAIST-affiliated startup focused on AI-based smart factories. Before joining KAIST, he worked for four years at Micron Technology, a semiconductor memory manufacturer in the United States, where he was involved in factory automation and operations. He aims to conduct research that has a real impact on the industry, collaborating with leading domestic and international companies to ensure his research can be applied in actual industrial settings. Currently, he serves as an associate editor for the international journals IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering and Computers and Industrial Engineering. His notable works include the bestseller "Management Concert" published by Kyobo Bookstore.
